It’s the most exciting time of the year for lobster lovers. Mini lobster season, the two-day event held on the last Wednesday and Thursday of July that kicks off the full lobster season in August, is upon us. Duck Key is an ideal spot to catch these precious creatures, affectionately referred to as ‘bugs’ throughout the Keys due to their resemblance to spiny critters.
From 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, through midnight Thursday, July 25, the crustaceans are fair game. This year, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has declared July 14 an additional bonus day just for Florida residents.
